Barcombe Mills to Isfield Weir

Starting at Barcombe Mills enjoy a scenic kayaking river trip, paddling up river to Isfield Weir (also known as Fish Ladder Falls). We’ll kayak through lovely surroundings and enjoy spending time in the great outdoors. The river is lined with trees and fields and you’ll be able to spot local wildlife en route including herons, swans, Canadian geese, dragonflies, damselflies, and maybe the odd sea trout heading up stream to its spawning grounds.

If you've not kayaked before, we’ll spend some time at Barcombe getting used to manoeuvring the kayak including learning about correct technique, posture and how to turn, brake and paddle backwards. Once the basics are mastered we’ll start making our way to the Weir, paddling at a pace that suits you.

We’ll meet a few fun challenges along the way including moving around trees and doing the limbo under bridges, which all help to make the journey an exciting adventure! We’ll pass the Anchor Inn on our way to the Weir – a lovely pub with a wood burning stove in the winter and drinks by the river in the summer time. At the weir we’ll take some time out, to enjoy the stunning surroundings, have a rest and a bite to eat as well taking advantage of a great photo opportunity with a backdrop of rushing water. This trip is suitable for both beginners and regular paddlers. Our highly qualified instructors will adapt the day to suit your group's needs.

We also run group kayaking river trips along the middle section of the River Ouse, River Arun, the River Medway and the River Cuckmere. Most rivers are tidal, meaning we can only paddle them on certain dates and times, please contact us to find out more.
