Barcombe Mills to Lewes

Starting at Barcombe Mills, journey downstream and explore the countryside from the water all the way to the historic town of Lewes.

This is a great day out for you and your family or friends to take in the beautiful countryside of Sussex and bask in the wide open spaces that are before you. There is also a chance that a heron, swan or even a Kingfisher might join you.

We finish at the Harvey Brewery in the historic town of Lewes. Here you can have a rest and reflect on your great adventure while you have a bite to eat.

This trip is suitable for all levels of kayakers, even if you’ve never sat in a boat before. Our experienced instructors can tailor the day to the group to make sure everyone gets the most out of their day.

Who is it for?

Groups who are looking for a day out with a difference! Suitable for anyone interested in taking up kayaking or those just wanting to explore Sussex by water.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this trip, but being able to swim 50m and a reasonable level of fitness is preferable.

Equipment needed

For all kayaking courses you must have extra warm clothes and waterproofs, we will provide you with a full kit list upon booking.

Full change of clothes to go kayaking in, including footwear, and underwear.
Clothing should be suitable for the time of year*
Waterproof jacket and trousers (to wear on the water)
Extra jumper
Warm hat / sun hat
Gloves
Towel
Snacks / water
Medication / Tablets / Inhaler etc.

The above list is just a guide and appropriate clothing for the time of year should be worn. We highly recommend you have a dry bag for all your kit on the water and to put your wet clothing in at the end of the day.

*Clothing should comprise of several layers to trap the warmth. Please do not wear denim as it restricts movement, is cold when wet and is slow to dry. You must wear footwear whilst kayaking (old trainers, plimsolls) please don’t wear sandals. Wetsuits are not required as they only work when they are wet; if you wish to bring a wetsuit we still recommend you have a warm top.
