This course is designed for a competent flat water paddler who wants to learn how to surf! Our experienced instructors will teach you how to predict surf, choose the right spot to take off and carve along the wave, as well as equipment and location selection. Courses are run in either Devon or Cornwall and we will use the best beaches for the conditions on the day.

This course is a great way to develop your kayaking skills and allow you to explore a different aspect of the sport. This is an ideal progression for those with extensive flat water kayaking experience who want to progress their skills and bring a different, exciting element to the sport in this unique environment. Surfing the waves is a completely different experience to kayaking inland on flat water or even white water so brave the waves, prepare to get wet and experience kayaking as never before - you may never look back!

To build on existing flat water kayaking skills and learn to kayak in small surf conditions.

Anyone wishing to learn to  surf kayak in gentle surf with spilling waves.

Prerequisites

You must be a competent flat water kayaker, we recommend that you have attended our Start Kayaking Award course, have used a spraydeck before, and ideally will have some experience of flat water kayaking River Trips.

To gain the most from this course, we recommend you have your own kayak and paddling equipment, however we can provide you with the following equipment with borrowed with prior arrangement: kayak, paddle, helmet, spraydeck, buoyancy aid.

Equipment needed

Wetsuit or dry-suit and suitable clothing for the time of year should be worn. We will provide you with a kit list upon booking.

Transport

Lift sharing can be coordinated.

Accommodation

To keep the course costs down accommodation is not included. We can usually recommend some places to stay.
