"Once you have calmed down, start doing the right things."

- Mountaineering: The Freedom of the Hills

Every trad or multi-pitch climber reaches a point where they wonder what they'd actually do if their partner fell, got stuck, or was injured mid route. Self rescue and problem solving skills turn that worry into a plan you've actually practised, so if the moment ever comes, you're not working it out from first principles.

When it comes to learning these skills, we recommend one of two approaches: training indoors at our own specialist facility in Brighton, in a controlled space free from the weather, or training outdoors on real rock, placing your own protection as part of the day. Happily, Hatt Adventures can help you with both.

There's no right or wrong place to start, but you'll be glad you did before you ever need to use it.

Our courses build progressively from your first prusik through to advanced improvised rescue, run either at our dedicated indoor rescue training facility in Brighton, as far as we're aware the only venue of its kind in the UK, or outdoors at one of our usual crags. When you book one of our courses, you choose the format that suits your experience, your budget and how far you want to travel.

Three great reasons to train with Hatt Adventures:

This isn't our first rodeo.

We've been running courses since 2005 and teaching rope rescue and problem solving to climbers for much of that time.

We've got all the credentials.

Our instructors are members of the Mountain Training Association, with years of experience teaching rescue skills to climbers of all levels.

A dedicated indoor facility.

As far as we're aware, ours is the only purpose built indoor rescue training venue in the UK, giving South East based climbers a year round, weather proof way to train.
