From the South Downs to Scotland: mountaineering, navigation, and hiking

The wildest corners of the hills and mountains come without signposts. Our navigation, scrambling, and winter courses are how you reach them.

Navigation begins on the South Downs, a short trip from London and Brighton. Take a map and compass and go from complete beginner to night navigation. A blank space on the map can become a bold route.

Pick a challenge and train for it. We guide the UK 3 Peaks, the Welsh 3000s, the Yorkshire 3 Peaks, the South Downs Way, and the Jurassic Coast. Step off the walkers' path and onto the rock. Our scrambling days in North Wales and the Lake District trade the trail for rock and reward you with ridgeline views.

A guided winter mountain walk gives a first taste of the Scottish hills in winter. For serious progress, our Scotland-based courses build technical skills in winter navigation, snow holing, and winter skills, in the Nevis range near Fort William and the Cairngorms near Aviemore.

Reasons to head for the hills with us:

Qualified to lead

Every course is led by qualified Mountain Leaders who are outdoor first aid trained, and our instructors belong to the Mountain Training Association. They know the hills and mountains, and they're ready for whatever the day brings.

We were exploring the UK's hills and mountains long before we taught in them. Our curiosity runs to flora, fauna, geology, and history too, and we'll share as much as you want to know. Choose your course and head for the hills.
