We had a day's kayaking down the river Ouse, the trip was for my 2 sons and one of their friends.

With the weather being sunny all day we were rewarded with a very pleasant trip down the river with outstanding scenery and no noise other than the splashing of the oars, the odd bird singing and a few cows mooing at the riverside a tranquillity no doubt complete wasted upon the teenagers of the group.

A perfect way to unwind at the end of the week though those peaceful moments were soon brought to an abrupt end as our instructor brought out a soft ball and started a game of kayaking handball much to the delight of the younger ones .

The scene was now more like a scene on one of the fasted rivers as the surf rose up as we chased after the ball. It was only when I side wound into my sons kayak and capsized him and shouted whoz the daddy that we realized why we were given capsizing instructions on such a placid stretch of water! Still no harm done I only got a few splashes and was dry in no time.

A bit further on we had a 100m kayaking race and just to let my son know there were no hard feelings I let him win by a comfortable margin.

We were just over halfway now and I was ready for my picnic lunch at the weir . At this point our instructor really pushed the boat out and offered us a choice of two routes for the final stretch and my boys opted for the slightly longer one and I was completely knackered by the time we reached Lewes.

All in all an excellent day.

My only downside was in the booking , obviously trying to get hold of an outside instructor is going to be difficult in the summer when they spend most of their time out on trips , but persevere and I am sure you will be rewarded with a day to remember.
