First Aid at Work Refresher Course (12hrs / 2 Days)
This 2-day First Aid at Work Refresher (Requalification) course is designed for individuals who already hold a valid First Aid at Work (FAW) certificate and need to renew their qualification before it expires.
The course ensures learners remain compliant with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements while maintaining the knowledge, skills, and confidence required to act effectively as a workplace first aider.
Delivered by experienced instructors, this refresher training focuses on revisiting key first aid principles, updating knowledge in line with current guidelines, and reinforcing practical skills through hands-on, scenario-based learning.
This course is ideal for workplace first aiders in higher-risk environments such as construction, manufacturing, warehousing, and large organisations where maintaining first aid competence is essential.
During the course, we will cover
- Roles and Responsibilities of a First Responder.
- Scene safety and incident management.
- Patient assessment using the primary survey (ABCDE approach).
- Managing collapsed casualties (with and without breathing).
- CPR (adult) and AED use.
- Airway management techniques.
- Choking management.
- Catastrophic bleeding control (including tourniquets and haemostatic dressings).
- Shock recognition and treatment.
- Burns and scalds
- Roles and Responsibilities of a First Aider.
- Incident management and scene safety.
- Primary and secondary survey (patient assessment).
- CPR (adult) and AED use.
- Managing an unresponsive casualty.
- Choking management.
- Bleeding control and shock management.
- Burns and scalds.
- Fractures, sprains and strains.
- Head, spinal and chest injuries.
- Major illnesses (heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, diabetes, asthma).
- Anaphylaxis and use of auto-injectors.
- Eye injuries and minor injuries.
- Recording incidents and reporting procedures.
- Communication with emergency services.
- Managing multiple casualties.
- Workplace-specific emergency scenarios.
This refresher course is highly practical, allowing learners to rebuild confidence through realistic workplace scenarios and reassessment of essential first aid skills. It ensures participants remain competent and capable of responding effectively to emergencies in their working environment.
The training aligns with HSE recommendations and provides the necessary requalification for those wishing to continue acting as designated first aiders in the workplace.

CERTIFICATES
Electronic certificates are emailed out to learners approximately 2 weeks after the training. This fully accredited qualification is regulated by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) and is part of the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF).
VALIDATION
This refresher qualification renews your First Aid at Work certificate for a further 3 years.
Learners must complete the refresher course before their current certificate expires. If the certificate has expired, the full First Aid at Work (3-day) course will need to be retaken.
Regular refresher training is strongly recommended to maintain confidence, reinforce practical skills, and ensure continued alignment with current first aid best practices and guidance.
