Improve Your Navigation Skills in the South Downs National Park in Sussex

This is the next step on from our Introduction to Navigation course and builds on the knowledge and skills previously acquired. This course is more focused on developing compass skills and you will be taught how to navigate to a higher standard and accurately find features away from paths and tracks.

The course is split into 2 sections: Classroom Theory and Practical Skills on the hill. The course will build on previous navigation knowledge, either learnt from experience or from our Introduction to Navigation course.

Develop the necessary skills needed to read a map efficiently with the use of a compass. We will teach you more advanced map to ground navigation and compass skills to find your way cross country and accurately find specific locations such as aiming off, attack points, boxing and search patterns for finding objects or places. These are essential skills for anyone who might be interested in exploring or just finding their way, including walkers, fell runners and mountaineers among others.

If you feel you have already gained these skills and would like to test your navigational abilities in different situations, we offer a Night Navigation course which the perfect way to do this in a safe and controlled environment.
