GPS Navigation

In this day and age of gadgets and gizmos handheld GPS (Global Positioning System) devices are an extremely popular navigation tool. However there is often a misconception that GPS devices can replace traditional map reading techniques.

This course will teach you how to get the most out of your GPS and use it in conjunction with your map to become an extremely useful navigation aid.

Prerequisites
Navigation Skills course or previous navigaition experience.

During the course we will cover the following:

Map to ground navigation
Route planning
Time, distance, speed
GPS settings techniques
Linking to a computer & software
Emergency action plans

Equipment Supplied: All map reading, GPS and safety equipment is supplied.
Equipment Needed: Full waterproofs, warm clothing (including emergency clothing) walking boots / trail shoes. We will provide you with a kit list.
Catering: Please bring a packed lunch and plenty of water.
Accommodation: N/A
Transport: Lift sharing can be arranged, or we will meet at the venue.
