These navigation courses are designed to give you more confidence in map reading and compass skills, they are suitable for a range of levels and abilities. Starting with the navigation basics moving on to the navigation skills course which takes a more in depth look at the skills and knowledge gained in the navigation basics. Hatt Adventures also offer night navigation courses and GPS navigation courses.

Navigation Basics

Navigation Basics

Really learn to get the most out of your map, understanding the conventional symbols, relief using the contours, grid references, map scales, judging and measuring distance. Put it all into practise and you boost your confidence navigating on the South Downs in Sussex.
Navigation Skills

Navigation Skills

Building upon knowledge and skills acquired in the Navigation Basics course, this course teaches more in-depth map reading and compass skills to navigate cross country and other skills such as aiming off, attack points, boxing and search patterns for finding objects or places. Courses are run in the South Downs National Park in Sussex.
Night Navigation

Night Navigation

This is an essential skill that is often neglected or overlooked and it may be too late before you realise how important these skills really are. Our course starts in daylight to allow you to get your bearings, before really refining your compass and pacing skills once night falls.
Navigation GPS

Navigation GPS

In this day and age of gadgets and gizmos handheld GPS (Global Positioning System) devices are an extremely popular navigation tool. This course will teach you how to get the most out of your GPS and use it in conjunction with your map to become an extremely useful navigation aid.
