Learn To Rock Climb in the Peak District

The Peak District is the world's second most visited national park (after Mount Fuji national park in Japan) and is a mecca for British climbing. The famous gritstone outcrops are recognised as some of the finest rock climbing sites in the world, unique for the frictional properties of the rock. The Peak District is conventionally split into the northern Dark Peak, where most of the moorland is found and whose geology is gritstone, and the southern White Peak, where most of the population lives and where the geology is mainly limestone-based. The most popular climbing spots are in the Dark Peak area and include such well-known crags as Burbage, Frogatt and Britain's most popular crag, the distinctive Stanage Edge.

Other than the unrivaled rock climbing, another reason the Peak District is so popular is that being in Derbyshire, it is within close reach of many large cities including Sheffield, Manchester and Derby meaning that for many people it can be reached for a day's or even an evening's walking or climbing. That said, it still has the necessary distance from the cities to ensure it remains a tranquil countryside retreat.

This trip is a fantastic opportunity to learn the basic skills needed for outdoor rock climbing while meeting other like-minded individuals in a unique and picturesque setting. Rock climbing in the Peak District is world-famous and is loved by novices and expert climbers alike due to the range of climbing routes available- the climbing here is superb and even while not climbing you will have a chance to see climbers of all abilities in action, with the opportunity to get ideas or just to gaze in awe!

This trip is an experience you will never forget and will hopefully open up the door for you to have many a climbing adventure to come.

Aim
To teach the key rock climbing and abseiling techniques needed to get started in these fantastic sports while having a great time!

This is a two-day climbing trip designed to introduce the novice rock climber to climbing outside on some of the UK's finest crags.

Led by our highly qualified and experienced instructors you will develop or improve your belaying skills (safely holding the ropes for other climbers) and learn how to make the best use of the rock's features for your hands and feet, all the while gaining useful climbing tips and techniques. No matter what your personal ability, you instructor will tailor the holiday to your needs and aspirations. Whether you reach the top of every climb you attempt or just attain a personal goal you will be guaranteed to finish your weekend buzzing with a real sense of adventure and achievement, and you may even have met a potential climbing partner for future trips!

Who is it for?
Ideal for the complete beginner or someone with limited climbing and abseiling experience. This is also a great chance for someone who wants to go on a climbing holiday but knows few other climbers with whom to go with, this is a guaranteed way to meet fellow climbers for future climbing adventures! In addition, this is the perfect opportunity to take if you climb indoors and want to go outside for the first time.

Prerequisites
There are no prerequisites for the climbing and abseiling course, but a reasonable level of fitness is required.

Evening 1
Our climbing instructors will meet you in our bunkhouse on the first night and give a group briefing as to trip itinerary for the weekend, before we all head to the local pub for a spot of socialising and story-swapping to whet your appetite for the adventures to come!

Day 1
After a freshly cooked breakfast and all the packed lunches have been collected, we will depart for one of the nearby crags. Your climbing instructors will set up all the ropes throughout the weekend and the climbs will be tailored to suit your needs so whether this is your first time on real rock or even if you've been climbing for years we'll find something to challenge you.
In the evening you'll enjoy a home cooked meal and relax with a few climbing films to inspire and motivate you for the following day!

Day 2
Again, after eating breakfast and collecting your lunch our climbing instructors will take you to a different outcrop of rocks for a bit of variety and, having seen you climb the day before, will really be able to coach you on your personal climbing technique and style and set you some personal goals. This will make your experience unique to you and help you develop your skills at your own rate. We will also set up and teach you how to abseil. Often in outdoor climbing abseiling is necessary to access the bottom of the desired route or to return from the top of a climb so this is a very useful skill to learn, and great fun at the same time!
