3 Peaks Challenge (24hr)

Walkers on Ben Nevis attempting The UK 3 Peaks Challenge with Hatt Adventures.

The UK 3 Peaks 24hr Challenge
The UK Three Peaks Challenge (or National Three Peaks Challenge as it is also known) is one of the most well known and sought after walking challenges in the UK. The aim is to climb the 3 highest peaks in Scotland - Ben Nevis (1,343m), England – Scafell Pike (978m) and Wales – Mount Snowdon (1,085m) in under 24 hours.

This is a fantastic opportunity to test your limits and set yourself a real challenge, whether you're a avid hillwalker or just fancy actively challenging yourself with this highly-regarded walk. If you're feeling extra ambitious and want to hit that extra goal you could even get your friends to sponsor you to make this a charity event!

This is a challenge not to be underestimated, as throughout the 24 hours you will be ascending and descending approximately 3000 meters and a large part of this will be in darkness and over rough terrain. A good level of fitness and determination is essential as at times you will feel physically and mentally tired, however the team spirit created along the way should get you there, plus the sense of achievement and satisfaction from completing the challenge cannot be described and makes it all worthwhile!

All those who complete the challenge within the 24 hours will receive a FREE t-shirt!

Please note: the Three Peaks Challenge is not a single large event that runs once a year with everyone taking part on the same weekend, rather it runs whenever organisations or individuals decide to undertake the challenge. If you wish to take the challenge please contact us to find out our upcoming dates and make a booking. Alternatively, if you have a group of 6 or more, you can choose your own dates and we will organise the challenge for you on your selected date.

If you would love to attempt this challenge but are not confident of your fitness or have limited mountain walking experience why not attend one of our Mountain Training Days to test your fitness levels and break you in gently?

For an even greater challenge why not have a go at the Welsh 3000s Challenge?

During the challenge you will be provided with

  • An experienced mountain leader
  • Pick up from: Brighton (Train Station), London (Heathrow Airport Terminal 5) and Glasgow (International Airport).
  • Drop off to: Shrewsbury, London and Brighton

Mountain Leaders

You will be guided by an experienced instructor who holds a mountain leader qualification and has experience of the three peaks or other endurance challenges. All of our group leaders are wilderness first aid trained and will be in radio communication with the support team.

Support Team
The support team's job is to get you from peak to peak, provide moral (don’t underestimate this!) and warm meals in-between the mountains and provide back up mountain safety to the mountain leaders if required.

Training for the 3 Peaks Challenge
We provide a full training pack ensuring that you are well prepared for your challenge which includes a fitness training program put together by fitness training instructors and endurance specialist, plus information on walking, boots, clothing, equipment and where to buy from. You can also attend our mountain training days, held in the Brecon Beacons which will give you the opportunity to try out your equipment, break in your boots and test your fitness.

Individuals and Small Groups
Open to individual challengers and small groups we run open challenges of selected dates from May to October.

Challenge Teams
Depending on the size of the event we will divide you into groups of 10 for the duration of the three peaks challenge. You will be able to choose your group (depending on your fitness level and mountain walking experience) on the first evening but once in a group you will not be able to change as the minibuses won’t always be together. If you have any concerns please feel free to contact us.

Fund Raising for Charity
If you are trying to raise money for a charity then we are more than happy to have you on the challenge, however you will still need to pay the event fee in the normal way. If you are looking to organise a charity three peaks with a large group then please contact us for more information.

Corporate Team Events
As well as our open 3 peak challenges we also run bespoke events for corporate teams. Please contact us for more information.

Conservation and 3 Peaks
Every year thousands of people attempt the three peaks challenge either in small unsupported groups or in large organised groups raising money for charity. At Hatt Adventures we are very aware of the environmental impact this is having (and the bad press that the three peaks has received within the walking and climbing community) which is why we run our three peak challenges in a responsible way.

We plan our timings to ensure that we are not disturbing the local residents at unsocial hours of the night and we ensure that all our clients are fully briefed on the environmental impact the events can have on the mountains and how to minimise them. We also only run small events, thus reducing our impact on the mountain trails.

Day 1
On Friday we will travel up from Brighton to Fort William collecting challengers as we go (from Brighton, London and Glasgow). This will take most of the day but it's a great chance to get to know the people you'll be completing the challenge with. In the evening we will run through any questions, check kit and give a mountain safety briefing, and then off to bed early for a good nights rest!

Day 2
The day starts early and after breakfast we will travel by minibus to the base of Ben Nevis, the largest of the three mountains. The 3 Peaks begin! By the early evening you can expect to be ascending Scafell Pike, and then on to Mount Snowdon!

Day 3
You will start Mount Snowdon in the early hours of the morning and should get a fantastic view over the Snowdon Horseshoe as the sun comes up, and then be down in time for breakfast! The challenge is completed when the whole team is safely back down from the mountain!

May to October, please see the calendar for the next available dates.

Just finished the 3 peaks challenge. Had a grueling but great time. Tom, Kevin and Dave (our instructors) made the whole experience a lot more enjoyable. Great crowd to climb with too. At the time I thought it was something I would never do again but on reflection I think I would love to do it all over again. Thanks to everyone at hatt for their hard work and effort.

We signed up for the 3 Peaks after going on a Climbing and Abseiling day with Hatt Adventues - I highly recommend it.

The 3 Peaks trip was very well prepared and organised. The pre-climb briefings were strong, thought out and really demonstrated their experience. If things didn't go to plan, I felt we could rely on Tom to deal with whatever emergency arose.

Hatt Adventues haven't seen the last of us.

The 3 peaks challenge is the most challenging thing I have ever done, the guys at Hatt Adventure were absolutely amazing keeping our spirits high and motivating us, but above all putting our safety and security as their top priority. This was a fantastically organised expedition - thank you very much Hatt Adventure.

I had an amazing weekend with Hatt Adventures. The whole experience was really well organised from the time of booking to the final journey home! Tom was so supportive and encouraging, ensuring that our team succeeded in completing the 3 Peaks safely and in a really good time. Our drivers, Kevin & Dave were fantastic - not only did they get us to our next destinations but they were always there with a big smile and a hot meal and the end of each peak. A big thank you to everyone at Hatt Adventures!

Had a fantastic weekend (11/12 September) completing the 3 Peaks Challenge with the team from Hatt Adventures; they were professional, friendly and kept us all positive throughout. Dave & Kevin were always there smiling, providing supportive banter and motivational tunes in the minibus when we came back down between mountains, and Tom kept us motivated and all 'in check' throughout the challenge. A thoroughly enjoyable weekend and despite the pain and hard work once I got home I found I was actually quite sad it was all over, missed it and was ready to get back up and do it all over again...watch this space! :-)

Just wanted to thank you and the crew for a fabulous weekend. It was by far the hardest and scariest thing I have ever done in my life but I wouldnt have missed it for anything. Mind you at some points during the walk, I was thinking 'what the hell am I doing here!!'

It was an absolute pleasure meeting and going through this experience with you and I wont forget it. I am sure with time, in my mind, it will become easy and I wont know what I made all that fuss about!!

Thanks for everything
